This summer, we’ve begun to see some startling news come out of our local healthcare systems. ER closures in Clinton and St. Marys, major staffing shortages that are impacting the care we receive, under funding in our hospitals, and burnout from the front line workers we rely on.
It’s not expected to get better any time soon either. Even ambulance wait times are starting to become a worry, when we need health care the most. We are in a crisis according to experts, but it’s still something our provincial leaders won’t admit.
There’s two distinct voices in this crisis, our politicians, and our front line workers trudging through the burnout on a daily basis. Which voice should we be paying more attention to?
On this episode of the 519 Podcast, we take a look at what’s going on inside our hospitals and talk about what’s needs to happen to get ourselves out of this. We talk to Jeff Hanks, RN and co chair with the Ontario Health Coalition in London, Claudette Holloway, President of the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario, and Mike Schreiner, leader of the Green Party in Ontario.
