Green Party of Ontario Leader Mike Schreiner campaigned in the riding of Parry Sound–Muskoka on Friday and Saturday alongside candidate Matt Richter ahead of the upcoming provincial election.

The pair knocked on doors in Huntsville, visited locals at the Fire and Ice Festival and met with local representatives from the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) and Scales Nature Park.

“People really appreciate the fact that I can deliver a strong independent voice for them down at Queens Park,” said Richter, in an interview with CTV News on Friday. “I don’t take my marching orders from a leader or from the party. I take them from the people of Parry Sound–Muskoka and they see that we’re going to bring real, honest solutions to the challenges they face day-in and day-out.”

This will mark the sixth time Richter runs for provincial parliament. He came within two thousand votes of Conservative MPP Graydon Smith during the 2022 election.

“I don’t need to tell Matt what to do when it comes to looking out for his community,” said Ontario Greens leader Mike Schreiner, through a Saturday media release. “He’s out here every day, knocking on doors, reaching out by phone and making sure people know that he works for them. At Queen’s Park, I won’t be his boss – the people of Parry Sound–Muskoka will be.”

Schreiner is scheduled to be in Toronto on Sunday to speak at the Ontario Health Coalition’s Annual Assembly.
