Ontario government plan ‘dangerous for our public hospitals,’ says CUPE

CUPE and the local health coalition rallied against privatization of hospital services in downtown Niagara Falls Monday.

CUPE’s Ontario Council of Hospital Unions and the Ontario Health Coalition demonstrate in Niagara Falls Monday with a Trojan horse meant to symbolize the “duplicity” of the Ontario Progressive Conservative government’s hospital services privatization plan. 

A registered practical nurse in Niagara says health-care privatization is going to lead to more crowded hospitals and worsen problems for “overworked, underpaid and underappreciated” staff.

“We got into health care to take care of our patients,” said Briar Moore, who works at St. Catharines hospital and is a member of Service Employees International Union.
