Health care is the hottest topic in the provincial election, right up there with skyrocketing hydro bills, and local candidates will be asked how they’ll address it.
An all-candidates meeting on health care is planned for Tuesday at the University of Windsor’s School of Social Work at Pitt and Ferry streets, the former Windsor Star building.
Candidates from the three main parties and the Green Party in all three local ridings have been invited. Chad Durocher of the None of the Above Party and independent candidate Laura Chesnick have also been invited.
The event is being organized by a coalition called Gathering Steam 2018. It includes Citizens for an Accountable Megahospital Planning Process, the Council of Canadians, Ontario Health Coalition, Ontario Council of Hospital Unions and Canadian Federation of University Women.
Health care will be the main issue, including the planned new hospital’s location and the public-private partnership that will be used to build it. Issues ancillary to health care, like poverty, will also be discussed.
The public will be able to meet and speak with the candidates before the event begins. There will be formal questions for the first hour. Then the audience will be able to ask questions.
Doors open at 6 p.m., the meet and greet will be at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting starts at 6:45 p.m.
The event, which will be moderated by former Kingsville deputy mayor Tamara Stomp, is free.
