The Windsor Essex Health Coalition vows to knock on 40,000 doors as part of a campaign to fight the threatened loss of thoracic cancer surgery.
Following a 10:30 a.m. organizing meeting at Windsor Public Library’s main branch on Ouellette Avenue, there should be volunteers knocking on doors throughout the community as early as Saturday afternoon, coalition co-chair Richard Laverty said.
“We’re going to go out into (MPP Teresa) Piruzza’s riding and the other ridings in the community, we plan on knocking on 40,000 doors and asking people to engage on this issue.”
There’s already been public outcry over the efforts by Cancer Care Ontario to force Windsor Regional Hospital to stop doing the surgeries for about 50 lung cancer patients and nine esophageal cancer patients annually, with more than 5,000 signatures on a petition created by MPP Taras Natyshak (NDP – Windsor).
