The government’s failure to provide safe, quality care to seniors in this province is disappointing, but hardly a surprise.
Health-care workers, and the wider labour movement, have been sounding the alarm for many years. In particular, the Ontario Health Coalition has been raising concerns both directly to the government and indirectly through publicity campaigns. Instead of heeding the call for improvements, Doug Ford and the PCs ignored calls for change that could have alleviated the suffering and death for so many long-term care residents.
Now that COVID-19 has put a spotlight on the atrocity that is private long-term care, Ford has convened an independent commission made up of the same players who were instrumental in privatizing long-term care in Ontario to begin with. Ford and the PCs are failing us.
